Most districts offer some type of gifted program beginning between 1st and 3rd grade. These vary widely from pull-out programs offering a few hours of enrichment per week, to full-time self-contained classrooms where the learning pace is accelerated. At the high school level, options for students in public schools include enrollment in advanced, honors, or AP courses, courses at community colleges or universities, for the junior and senior years. Check with your local district early; application deadlines are often up to one year in advance.
